Supporting the Body to Calm the Mind with Belinda Norton x Gully Boards

The body is not separate from the mind. It is the mind’s first language. In my work as a Bioenergetic Educator, I see this daily  people who understand why they feel the way they do, yet their body remains tight, guarded, or fatigued. This isn’t a lack of insight. It’s a body that has been compensating for a long time.

This is where simple, intelligent tools can make a profound difference. Gully boards are one of those tools. At a physical level, gully boards gently challenge balance, foot mechanics, and joint alignment. But their impact goes much deeper than muscle activation. When the feet are stimulated and the body is required to make subtle adjustments, the nervous system wakes up — not in a stressed way, but in a regulating way.

The feet are rich in sensory receptors. When we stand, rock, or move on uneven surfaces, we send new information to the brain. This improves proprioception (body awareness), encourages postural recalibration, and supports fascial hydration and flow.

From a bioenergetic perspective, this matters. A body that feels stable can soften. A nervous system that receives clear sensory input can downshift from vigilance into safety. For many people, chronic tension isn’t about weakness, it’s about protection. Gully boards invite the body to reorganise without force. They create micro-movements that gently unwind habitual holding patterns in the calves, hips, pelvis, and spine, while simultaneously grounding the system through the feet.

What I love most about gully boards is their accessibility. They’re not about pushing harder or performing better. They’re about listening allowing the body to respond, adapt, and find its own rhythm again.

Used consciously, they support:

•Balance and joint integrity as we age

•Fascial elasticity and circulation

•Nervous system regulation

•Mind–body reconnection

•A sense of grounding and presence

As an educator for 26 years Gully Board can make a vast impact on your child’s nervous system regulation and learning skill. I highly recommend for student who struggle to regulate. Gully Board uses movement as communication, not punishment. When we support the body properly, the mind follows. Sometimes healing doesn’t require more talking just better information reaching the nervous system.

Health and Happiness,

b.x
