b.Apple Pear Crumble

A moreish and luscious use of apples and pears from the fruit bowl. This apple and pear crumble recipe is super easy and I bet you have these staples sitting in the pantry.

Recipe: b.Apple Pear Crumble

Serves 6–8

Filling

  • 3 apples, sliced thin (e.g. Granny Smith apple or pink lady)
  • 3 pears, sliced thin (e.g. Pear)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ginger (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1–2 tbsp maple syrup or honey
  • 1 tbsp arrowroot or cornflour (helps thicken juices)

Crumble Topping

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • ¾ cup almond meal
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 2 tbsp chia or flax seeds
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch sea salt
  • 3 tbsp coconut oil or melted butter
  • 2–3 tbsp maple syrup or honey

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Toss apples and pears with lemon, cinnamon, vanilla, sweetener, and arrowroot.
  3. Place fruit into a greased baking dish.
  4. In a bowl, mix all crumble ingredients until crumbly.
  5. Sprinkle evenly over fruit.
  6. Bake 35–45 mins until golden and bubbling.

Optional upgrades

  • Add berries for extra antioxidants
  • Mix in collagen powder or protein powder with crumble
  • Serve with Greek yogurt or coconut yogurt instead of ice cream
  • Add chopped dates if you want sweetness without syrup
