How I Upgraded My Life in 7 Ways

‘Courage can only come when ego gets quiet’

For a long time, I thought upgrading my life meant doing more, achieving more and proving more and shock … it didn’t. It meant becoming honest enough to let go of what was no longer me. It was taking responsibility for all parts of my healing and removing all pity party and victim mindset aspects. It was taking control of my healing as opposed to gving my healing to other professionals.  It was looking at myself in the mirror and saying I chose to seek peace and calm in me.

The most profound part was ‘getting out of my head and into my body’. This aspect I have used since I was only 8 years old, as I would take myself for a walk, run, bike ride to remove myself from an environment. As you know I have been an athlete for most of my life however when I added yoga to my daily routine, being the first thing in the morning it gave me access to another level of mind and body. It accelerated the healing process. I strongly encourage you to develop a routine of yoga daily, for breathwork, for movement but more importantly to unlock the fascia. By doing yoga daily it helped me to find courage in my body and a level of bravery and inner knowing. Yoga was the key to quieting the ego to viewing my body and mind through a different lens. With yoga you are alone, in your own time and undoing to renew.

Below are the 7 Must Do to Heal to your Next Level, to Unlock and to Open the Mind and Body:

1. I stopped choosing what was familiar over what was right.

Familiar can feel safe, comfort can mean stagnancy especially when it’s keeping you small. I learned that discomfort isn’t always a warning sign. Sometimes it’s evidence that you’re growing. Resistance is growth and if you choose new, well we learn more and that is the sheer definition of life and aging to live to expand. If we are not changing, we are not choosing ‘living’ as a human being.

2. I stopped needing everyone to understand me.

Not everyone will understand your next chapter. And they don’t need to. When you know where you’re going, you stop needing permission from people who only knew the old version of you. Meeting new people from a variety of walks of life allows you to hear stories of adversity, this will help you heal. If we lock ourself away, only listening to our own story and we miss the opportunity to evolve and to deeply connect again by being, listening and beoming.

3. I quietened my ego.

Courage can only come when ego gets quiet. Ego wants to be right. Courage wants to be real. Once I stopped protecting the version of myself I had built, I found space to discover who I was becoming. It was here in butterfly pose in yoga that I unlocked. I lay through the pain, the tears as I used breath to trust myself and my body again. I was grounded and by being still unlocking my hips it was here all ‘the stuff came up’. I watched, I heard but more importantly my pineal gland had opened and it is this level of consciousness we should all seek.

4. I raised my standards.

I changed my environment. I moved closer to the ocean and away from the bustle, it was an extra commute but my peaceful home was worth it. These environmental changes at work and taking into consideration the aspects of home, neighbourhood and the same people helped me unlock a new level in myself.  I raised my relationships with myself by only speaking with kindness, never gossip and avoid negative language of all types ( I am still working on my swearing though). I focused on my work that I was passionate about and my time management around what and who gave me value. The most important change in standards was the way I spoke to myself, if it was a negative or doubtful thought; I removed it. I reverted the thought, and told myself if was a pattern. Your life changes when, what you can tolerate changes. When you can revert the mind toward love and acceptance.

5. I stopped starting over.

I realised I wasn’t starting again with anything. I was taking everything I had learned, everything I had survived, everything I had built and bringing it into a new arena. Experience doesn’t disappear just because your circumstances changes; it evolved. I harnessed my deeply knowledge and my perspective as tools in my toolbox. This is where we remove the grief aspect of ourselves but seeing the upgrade as a step up.

6. I chose expansion over stagnation.

I stopped asking, “What if this doesn’t work?” And started asking,  “What could become possible if I actually let myself grow?” That question changes everything. I stopped the fear and self doubt. I stopped my own self sabotage. Instead I wrote purposeful manifestations every night that was a gratitude for the next day. I would set myself up for success by saying ‘I am so grateful for the day being so smooth and what ever I had the next day I would pitch it to be my expectation and being grateful for it being as I wanted. It worked. I trust that I created my own reality and nothing can affect my progression of my own real life that I had projected with a purpose and calm. This is where we find the true believe in ones self.

7. I came back to myself.

Not the version people expected. Not the version I thought I had to be. Me. My body. My intuition. My purpose. My energy. My voice. Because the biggest upgrade isn’t becoming someone else. It’s becoming more fully yourself. This sheer fact, I reminded myself of. This is not ego, this is self value, this is self worth and having an inner knowing that life is what we create is in our tethered souls. (If you need more information upon ‘our tethered soul’ – read the book and I will share a list of must reads ASAP)

These aspects below ensure that you do come back to yourself. Having a understanding that your body creates your mind and your mind creates the body. It is intertwined. Tick these off to ensure an complete understanding your humanness.

BODY HEALTH

Your body is your foundation. It is the only vessel that carries you. When you come to see its importance and value – life truly changes. If you do not respect this vessel of particles then it is the first step. Start small, walk think and breath through your nose. Learn to understand its signals, energy, movement, nutrition, sleep, hormones, breath and nervous system so you can work with your body rather than against it. Avoid alcohol and drugs. Read all ingredients especially if you are taking medication. Just like you read the direction to documents on the how to aspects of purchases – do this for your body! The most important vehicle you own is this body.

MIND HEALTH

Your thoughts, emotions and beliefs shape how you experience life. Build awareness, emotional regulation, confidence, resilience and mental clarity so you can respond rather than simply react. What you feel inward is reflected outward, your response to something is still your response. Work on responding to everything with calm. Learn how to breath through your nose with calm. Stretch your jaw it opens your throat and your muscles around your face and head expanding your mind.

RELATIONSHIPS

Healthy relationships begin with how you relate to yourself. Understand attachment, boundaries, communication, trust, conflict and the patterns you repeat with the people around you. All relationships are a reflection of your inner self, being a child in fear, fight or fawn. See yourself from others perspective as sometimes we are not so pretty and a fake soul can be seen and felt a mile away. Unfortunately we do see more people in this world living in their ego of fakeness; focussing on the outer, the possessions (car, purchases) when the most important is this vessel the body and feeling in our own mind.

CAREER & PURPOSE

Your work should have a relationship with who you are. Explore your strengths, values, purpose, ambition, confidence and direction and recognise when you have outgrown an environment. Growth is the purpose and staying to long anyway means we are addicted to comfort. Being the longest serving member says ‘ I am afraid to explore’. Be brave and life will energetically become abundant to who you are.

FAMILY

Family shapes our earliest understanding of safety, connection and belonging. Become aware of family patterns, roles, communication and generational habits so you can consciously create a different culture. You are not forced to accept poor treatment by anyone and especially in your family. This is the same as any relationship if they cannot accept you unconditionally with love then it’s time to place firm boundaries. This is a hard situation but your peace, safety and children are paramount.

DAILY HABITS

Your life is built through what you repeatedly do. Small habits around movement, food, sleep, screens, nature, connection, organisation and recovery create the structure that supports your wellbeing. Our habits create our routines and our routines ensure we meet our goals.

SELF-CONNECTION

At the centre of it all is your relationship with yourself. Knowing what you feel, what you need, what your body is telling you and what no longer fits allows you to make better decisions across every area of your life. Be open to expand, to be a new learner, to be courageous in self.  And sometimes the life you thought you were losing… is actually the life you finally had the courage to outgrow. After all, we get only 85 summers so why waste any?
