We all want our kids to be smart, motivated, healthy and happy… but how can we ensure this?

After teaching for the last 14 years both health and physical education and classroom teaching as well as being a parent of two children I have come to see the changes in our children both good and bad.
It’s unfortunate to say but their health, their fitness, their overall knowledge and behaviours have decreased rapidly and at an alarming rate and this is due to some key factors.
Reasons include:
Key communication skills have decreased meaning we aren’t talking to children as effectively as in previous decades.
+Speaking and listening has become more about children watching then doing.
+Adults tend not to listen to children as effectively therefore not answering childrens questions or having discussions in sufficient ways.
+Adults are not making children look at the way they speak (mouth movements) therefore children can not pronounce words as efficiently therefore spelling, reading and speaking words is affected.

Health has decreased due to adults being extra busy, trying to make more money to afford the things we require in life.
Health indicators like:
+stress is increasing, therefore causing more consumption of alcohol and also of excess food;
+body mobility is decreasing;
+overall wellbeing is decreasing.
Lack of time is becoming highly detrimental to our health and has caused more eating of fast food (high salt, high sugar, high fat) for adults and then children too. We must not be short sighted we must seek to provide children and ourselves with the best nutrition possible their bodies and brain require. But how?
Find fast healthy food recipes rather than the extra expense of takeaway.
Solutions:
+Choose quality foods
+Prepare your weekly menu and have it visible for all to see
+Grocery shop only for these foods and have a preparation afternoon
+Seek to find new fast nutritious recipes
On the upside fast food (NOT takeaway food) can be healthy and there are a multitude of great recipes that are very quick, easy and nutritious available online and for free. Plus see some of b.recipes as they are targeted to kids palettes and are also easy, fast and delicious even for the pickiest eater.
Fitness has also decreased again due to lack of time because of extra work hours. However, we can change this by:
instead completing family fitness rather than separate fitness.
Solutions:
+It is as easy as waking 1/2 hour earlier (which may seem like a chore at first and may make you feel less energetic upon waking but will actually only take one week to change your body clock and improve your metabolism)
+Getting up and out before your body understands and before you eat breakfast -walk for 30 minutes and add a few high-intensity exercises each morning and your family fitness exercise regime has started.
Not only will it benefit you the children or young adults will love it!
Because we are giving them the time to listen, explore and have quality time together before the busy rush of the day begins as this is a effective stress reliever for all the family.
We all need to believe in a life where our children have someone daily to look up too; someone that they can aspire to be just like; and someone willing to share their love of basic health, fitness and food.
These few changes will get you motivated and inspire you kids to be motivated and guess what? Motivated kids automatically create smart enthusiastic kids.
